Ladybug & Droplets Nail Art Tutorial For Beginners

Ladybug Polka Nail Inspo And Tutorial

Spotted: the cutest ladybug in town! If you’re missing the good old outdoor trips and catch-a-bug days, this is your sign for a little throwback. This playful nail design is nature’s way of reminding us of its wonders, bringing both fun and vigor for summer. With its earthy colors and realistic 3D dew droplets, you’ll fascinate people of all ages and inspire them to recreate your nails. Gather your products and tools to start your DIY beginner-friendly ladybug nails. Let’s get started with this tutorial!

1. Apply a blue base color on your nail tip

Let your canvas breathe the beauty of the skies. Grab your iGel Beauty gel polish in the shade Dip & Dap - DD122 Atmospheric, a light blue hue that instantly reminds us of a clear summer day. For the best results, apply 2-3 thin, even coats rather than a thick one to ensure the gel cures smoothly without any wrinkling. Once everything feels smooth, cure it inside your lamp.

2. Paint green accents on opposite sides

Next, we’re adding fresh greens with our Dip & Dap - DD224 I Beleaf in You. Paint soft, wavy medium-green accents on opposite corners of the nail tip, then cure the nail under a trusty UV/LED lamp. When combined with our sky-blue base, this creates a gorgeous color combo that looks just like a mini planet Earth! The comfy-cozy environment for our upcoming ladybug.

3. Illustrate a round red body at the center

Time to bring our main character to life! Using the electrifying red tone of 12 Flaming Red from the Line Art Gel Kit, dip your brush into the polish to carefully outline and fill in a perfect circle right in the center of the nail. A thin line brush is a total game-changer here because it gives you maximum control over the shape. Give it a quick cure for around 15-30 seconds to lock into place.

4. Draw the other body parts of the ladybug

Keep that thin liner brush handy because we’re moving to the finer details. Paint a line down the center of the body, then add the head, antennae, and little legs with 02 Black on Black from the Line Art Gel Kit. Don’t forget to do at least a 15-second flash cure. To get those ultra-crisp lines, use a super light hand and let just the very tip of the brush skim across the nail surface.

5. Use a dotting tool for the eyes and body

Bring all the luck with polka dots! 😉 Grab your go-to dotting tool and use 02 Black on Black liner from the Line Art Gel Kit. Gently press down to create those signature polka dots all over the red body. Then, switch over to 01 White on White to add two bright little dots right on the head for the eyes. Again, cure for 15-30 seconds under your lamp to secure the sweet details.

6. Add delicate lines for the veins of the leaves

Remember the green accents earlier? We’re transforming them into leaves! This step needs your softest touch, so hold the brush loosely and let it glide gently across the nail. Dip your thin line brush into a crisp white gel (Line Art Gel Kit - 01 White on White) to trace the delicate leafy veins, then flash-cure. Keep your hand relaxed to make the lines look completely organic.

7. Seal your nail art with a matte top coat

Before we add our final magic trick, apply a layer of iGel Beauty Matte Top Coat over the entire nail and cure for 30-60 seconds to seal in all your hard work. Finishing with a matte top coat is an industry practice to remove background glare for your hand-painted art. More importantly, this flat, non-shiny surface is essential in creating a contrast for our upcoming water droplets.

8. Create little droplets, then give a final cure

Down to our last step, we are adding 3D magic by placing Builder in a Bottle - Clear droplets around the nail area. Moreover, put a little builder gel directly on top of the ladybug’s round body to give her a realistic, glossy shell. If you don’t have one on hand, our iGel Beauty No Cleanse Top Coat could also do the trick to achieve the 3D look. Pop it under the lamp for one final cure!

It’s amazing how the littlest things can make the biggest difference, just like how this tiny ladybug became the perfect cherry on top of a refreshing blue & green summer manicure.
